I am Curious

What sort of round trip is it, if 90 mile to the same place, (all motorway? any chance you can charge car at work place everyday?

Are you willing to play a little with battery management?

Too many people in my view seem to state how bad fuel consumption is in a T8, people who do not drive them everyday, yes if 90% motorway, than I might agree, but if you are driving on A roads in traffic and in towns etc. having to follow traffic flow at general speed limit speeds you will be surprised how good a T8 can be, sure they can be bad, but then they can be better than you think.

I do not live in London, but still in the 12.5k miles I have done in 8 months near still on 57.6 MPG it dups down on long fast journeys, but the other journeys it comes back up, although a few of my journeys are like 35 to 40 mile round trips, but even 60+ mile trips into London and back still return from 43 mpg to 50+ and I might add I tend to drive at the upper limit of speed limits, to point of not getting a ban if you know what I mean, certainly faster than most people on the road.

Just please do not dismiss a T8 so easy.
Hi There,

The commute that I do is 50 miles each way each day, about 40 miles is motorway or free flowing dual carriageways.

About 10 miles is more flowing stop start type.

I have a drive way so could charge daily however I could not top up at work.

The T8 is a lot more than the diesel however if you buy second hand the 80,000 mile warrenty on the pack does not apply as its only for the original owner (I understand).

The Diesel would do 40MPG on that sort of run and offer all the power I need. I doubt I would better 40MPG with the Hybrid on that sort or millage???

Whats your thoughts on it?

Hi XC90 Mk1

I cannot say 100% but tbh I bet there is little difference in it, and then take cost of fuel difference, then add full charge difference, with is only like £1-10 at 14p KWH cost, depends if you are on off peak for night time, mine is 5.5p KWH so charge at night.

I assume you use the car for other journeys more local to make up the difference if there is one.

As you said also difference in cost to buy.

I have not heard about warranty transfer of batteries after 3 years, I doubt they would put that in, certainly something I have not been told.

it is a tough choice, but there is quite a difference in the drive of a T8 in every aspect compared to a T5 and D5.

To make matters worse T8 demos are so rare as well.

As yours is such a long term plan it is a tough call.

Weekends are often multiple trips of 20 odd miles so expect that to make up shortfall.

I may have to give it some thought.

Hugely, 150 Mpg + in a 20 mile trip on battery only, it is the short trips under 30 miles round ones you really see a benefit.

Also planning ahead, work, I do not know where you park, or work for, but there is a huge incentive for companies to supply charging stations, and certainly in the next few years will see massive changes.

Another one as well Polar, they only charge like £7-00 PM and you have access to 80% chargers FOC, if there are any in areas around your trips, well worth investigating, does not take many charges to get your money back, of course charger places I think will become,me a problem over the next few years, the demand will overtake the places available, where as at the moment I have never failed to get a place to charge car.

Good Luck.
