Poor economy and trouble starting when cold.

Ordered new Fuel Pressure Regulator and HT Leads + coil pack from rufe yesterday. Will update if it improves the car when I fit them hopefully this weekend.

Replaced FPR on my s40 t4 s-reg last week and all similar problems gone. however i had also problems starting from warm as well. had theses problems over a year thent it went worth and i got fed up. common fault on t4. whole in the FPR membrane

If it's not starting well when warm it will most probably be the engine temperature sensor. This regulates the amount of fuel needed depending on the temperature of the engine. If it starts well from cold then I would assume it wouldn't be the plugs as this would be when it would struggle the most. Unless the choke is stuck on of course

Well I've just changed the FPR, will zero my info centre and see what economy I get on the two 54mile round motorway trips tomorrow and Monday.

Now I just need to reattach the skin to the end of my finger tip.

Right I managed a fantastic fuel saving 32 mpg on the runs, looks like changing the FPR has not done a damn thing. Going changing the coils and HT leads now and will report back if that makes a difference, though on a few days off now so may be a bit quiet for a bit. Watch this space.

Well, did a 110 mile motorway trip to crewe and back and managed 31mpg. Looks like HT Leads and Coils werent the problem either. Going to try changing the Thermostat and see if that makes any difference. Could end up changing everything on the car the way its going.

I think I may be suffering from poor fuel economy too, but to be honest, it could be down the the fact that I drive around in South East London and mostly stuck on speed humps and mild traffic. I do around 19mpg opposed to the 25mpg I'm suppose to be doing. Is this right? Even in such conditions?

......you mention the car had a new O2 sensor fitted before you obtained it was a Universal fitted with wires crimped as this would be the problem .....it should be the proper full length wire with the plug to be plugged in on the rear engine compartment bulkhead......as well as poor economy you may even get other problems if not the recommended sensor.....what engine and miles has it done?......when i had the 960 a bad O2 sensor gave me 10mpg ........
