Default 2.4d S60 - sudden engine failure whilst driving HELP

Hi all,

Could do with advice, as new problem with S60.

Driving at 50mph dual carriageway yesterday, car just died, had to coast to a stop with no power brakes or power steering.

Restarts for 2secs, firing perfectly on all cylinders, then dies again.

Get fault codes for injector 5 (and sometimes injector 2) for signal too high/low/none.

RAC recovered, and he's convinced its an ecu fault or immobiliser issue.

I think it's odd to have a sudden ecu failure after perfect running, and I didn't think the starter turns when immobiliser kicking in??

What DOES stand out to me, is engine cover and rocker cover etc had a degreasing the day before failure, so I reckon wiring to injectors didn't like degreaser.

Any thoughts, as RAC and Mechanic car was delivered to, feel like they're going for most dramatic issues, where in my experience with these Volvos is even tiny things cause massive seemingly unrelated issues.

Thanks in advance

Does seem a bit of a coincidence if I'm honest....

I had a sudden shut off in my V60 Earlier this year the morning after a service at Volvo.

They hadn't bled the fuel system properly when replacing the fuel filter.

Thanks, yes I think so too. Funnily enough I was pondering whether mine was linked to a blocked fuel filter too...

It seems that some cheap degreasers can be corrosive. Likely needs to dry out, then check all relevant connectors for oxidation/corrosion ?

Thanks, yes exactly along the lines I was thinking. That the connectors were already on their last legs and the degreaser has finished them off.

Update...

So today all the injector connectors have been rewired after finding damaged wire causing issues with cylinder 5.

Hoped that had sorted it, but still won't run for more than 5 seconds.

Could the CEM need a hard reset??

Confused now as the faulty wiring is sorted, so why am I still getting the same codes...?!

Having problems with my captur 1.2 tce blowing a fuse. It brings up the STOP light and spanner light and displays the message “Engine Failure Hazard”. Driving ok then fault comes on, engine running normally. Traced to 15 amp fuse blown next to blue box (ECU?) under the bonnet. Brings up 15 or so faults on the local garage diagnostic machine. All clear when the fuse is replaced. But keeps blowing fuse at intermittent times. On replacing the fuse the last time the cooling fan cut in, so at least I know one thing that it feeds!
