Flame Trap Cleaning - 240

In the post on the "mystery oil leak" reference is made to the cleaning of the flame trap. I've often seen this procedure mentioned as an essential routine maintenance job to prevent pressure build up in the crank case and thus to protect oil seals from blowing etc.
My question is how do you get at it ?
On my '89 240 (B200e) it seems to be totally inaccessible, hidden underneath the inlet manifold and behind the throttle body.
Surely these latter items don't have to be removed to carry out a supposedly simple routine maintenance operation ?
Could anybody offer any advice please ?

Pull the small hose off the top of the inlet manifold that disapears between twoof the branches.Next look at the bottom and to the left of the injection unit you will see a largwer hose (about 1/2")follow this round with your left hand (remove dist cap for easier access)until you feel the plastic housing with the small hose (previousely dissconnected)pull this will dis the whole thing from the breather box bolted to the block.Feed both hoses through from underneath and to the left of the injection unit.Dismantle and winkle out the actual (usually plastic) flame trap and throw it away. Clean out pipes and housing and reassemble without the plastic flame trap (Volvo now advise it is not necessary! ?)refit in order or removal.

Inaccessible YES. I solved the same by drilling small holes through the flame trap to increase flow. Also check hoses are not fully crudded up and nipple is clean on manifold. Cheers Nigel
