Default No money pit

I have had mine almost 2 years now bought it with 70,000 on the clock and now has almost 92,000. It came with full volvo service history, a year into my owners ship MOT needed a front spring but replaced both volvo price £700 exact same brand new from ebay £300 and a rear wheel bearing , total MOT was about £400. Since then have replaced front break pads @ £97 fitted and angle gear spline when AWD went to pot at Xmas .Good news Volvo paid towards a % towards this due to it being a known problem.I had this done by a volvo dealer at if I remember £280.All in all I have been very happy with the costs as the things that have needed replace has been due to wear and tear.It is an amazing car to drive and if you read my recent posts I was contemplating selling it however after a re think Im going to keep it. I will probably keep it when I do decide to buy a new car as it for sure will become a classic and if kept in good condition will rise in value rather than depreciate. Have a read of my recent for sale post and you will see what dealers up here in scotland will offer you to trade it in and then what they try to sell it for .Was amazed again today to see an 05 plate on Auto trader for over 10K.

This thread is of some use to me as I'm currently looking into getting an s60r.
I've just sold a Clio 172 cup as I decided I needed something bigger and comfier but without loosing performance. The S60R seems like an ideal choice especially when you look at what else there is for the money...nothing.

Anyway, there is a car I've found. It's on pistonheads and currently has 101k.it's had a full Volvo history upto 83k and a specialist after that.cambelt done recently etc.

Should I worry about buying a fairly high mileage model?
I usually try and find cars with low miles but with the Volvo being so rare it's hard.

I started this thread a long time back so here is an update
I purchase a 53 s60r about 18 months ago from an auction, fvsh with 83k , its now done 94k just after the purchase i replaced top engine and bottom gearbox mount, all the drivetrain fluids , rear pads & turbo boost solenoid ,over the winter the downpipe developed a hairline crack where the downpipe /turbo flange is welded , ive just welded this back myself so no expense there, i also have a reverse light switch to fit . probably no more than you would spend on any s60.

It now needs two front tyres , the big 96k service and wishbone bushes

i did however have the car serviced at 86k at MRG,because of their price and the investment in s/history will help the resale value.

so all things considerd if you are handy with the spanners thease cars can be cost effective especially for the performance they give , i will keep it untill i have the funds for a s80 v8

One of the knowledgeable guys on T5D5 put a 2.4 engine in instead of the 2.5 after a piston wrecked the original. Said it's so much better, far stronger and no issues! Think it's mapped too.

These cars are now 7-8 years old and most have 80k+ miles on them. To me the only real weakness to be cautious about thats particular to the R is the angle gear. I had mine rebuilt by the local main dealer last year for 750 all in.

S60's are all tough on the front suspension, (UK roads don't help...) and consumables such as tyres and brakes discs/pads don't count. With shocks now available outwith the dealers at 330quid a pair, that's hardly unreasonable.

Worst running cost is petrol. At todays prices and my average at 20.9MPG, I've decided just to turn the display off!

I'm now at 3 1/2 years with my S60 R and have covered 25k miles. I'm totally happy with the car, and am thinking about selling only because I've always had my eyes on an RS6........ (sorry everyone...)

Default Big 96k service

The big 96k service aint so big .I have had a quote from my local volvo dealer for the 96k service which came in at £671 ,this included oil and filter change ,air filter , fuel filter and cam belt plus tensioner everything else was just checks. So what you get for your money aint all that. Not such a big service after all eh. As far as the angle gear I had the spline replace at xmas for what I thought was an ok price and as the previous guy said the front shocks can be picked up from e-bay brand new for 300 ish. I do a 50 mile round trip every day to work and yes the fuel price right now is nippy on the pocket however mine is returning 29 avg mpg on twisty roads and drops to 26 if I give it a blast.

In the 10 months i have owned i have had 4 new tyres fitted pirelli p zero rosso the original type tyre from new. When these were fitted i noticed a huge difference in the car over the michelin pilots that were on the car when i bought it, also new rear discs pads and handbrake shoes were fitted by mrg along with a software update on the gearbox.
I would not want to sell this car even though its heavy on fuel as there is nothing like it for the money really. As its a performance car you have to expect to spend more on running costs but its worth it.

What is the diffrence between the pirelli p zero rosso and the michelin pilots? I was thinking about getting the michelin pilot sport after speaking to an A8 owner who rated then very highly. Have a few miles to go before I need to think about what tyre choice to go for.
