It's only £1.54 a week more on VED ! That's one eclair a week less which will be bnetter for your obverall health

Also a 1+ second quicker that the 4 pot D4 is a pretty big margin 7.3 to 8.6

I am obviously biased though

So, there is a reason why we havent considered the D5 much; the £210 VED! Hence the D4 with a VED of £130.

A late D3 is also tempting because its VED is £30, however, most of them seem to be the Buissness Edition with textile seats, and we're specifically looking for leather electric heated seats.

Sotosound - Is the trim level equivalent to SE Lux? Because that's what it is: a silver 2015 4-cylinder D4 SE Lux with 8-speed auto, and I'm pretty sure it has the 18inch wheels (original owner must have added them as an option), plus dynamic cruise control (I think). It's selling for £16k (second hand car prices ouch) and does have a FSH.

uknowiama - good to know, will check this has happened.

Sotosound - your D4 VED is £30?
My V70's annual VED is indeed £30.

SE Lux brings power seats.

Driver's support pack brings Adaptive Cruise Control, collision warning, lane departure warning, BLIS, and a few other bits.

Winter Pack brings heated seats.

KJ15EYV?

If so, then I see no Driver's Support Pack buttons and no evidence of stop-start, which is perhaps why VED is £130. I suspect that some of the listed features aren't actually present in the car.....

The lists of features listed under "Specification" are more accurate than the seller's thrown together description.

Looks like a very nice car.

I also see that a number of late V70 D4's on Autotrader have 18" wheels, so it's probably what the car came with.

Or perhaps not.

My V70 allegedly emits 117gm/km CO2 whereas later vehicles allegedly emit 122 gm/km whether or not they have stop-start.

Hmmm!

My (2012 model year) 215bhp D5 is only £150 to tax (134 g/km according to DVLA website).

Just throwing it out there...

SE Lux also brings ABL Bi-Xenon headlights which are amongst the best headlights fitted to any car and TFT instruments which are easier on the eyes, especially at night, than the poverty spec ones.

The D4 8-speed auto is a hard to find, gem of a car....

I believe it doesn't happen if you run it on the super diesel - VPower, Ultimate, etc - HJ

Also see here for examples
https://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbyca.../v70-2007/good

So D4 engine is good but needs a little looking after to avoid problems?

As said by others, I keep to the D5, little more power, little thirstier, 5 cyclinder engine note, proven design for the most part.
There was a recall for the EGR on the earlier D4's and that resolves the very issues that were experienced. Very few, if any, post on here that they have had issues following the mod.

I read the honestjohn website and I think it's a comic, often contradictory information and not always accurate, I wouldn't take that too seriously.

The first article is a readers letter, and the dealer ordering the parts probably means they looked the car up and saw the recall wasn't done.

The second review is simply not factual. The rear LED clusters very rarely fail, I've only ever seen one post on here in 8 years were a rear LED lamp on any Volvo model had to be replaced. The second negative is also incorrect - the torque limiting on 1st & 2nd gears applied only to cars with the AW55 gearbox and for the V70 these ended in 2005. The rest of the drivelous article is probably a list of all V70 breakdowns in the UK.

It's just someones rant from their bedroom keyboard...

I've owned 2 D5's and 1 D4 VEA in the XC60 platform and they are both so similar in performance and experience the only question you really need to ask is do I need AWD (all AWD cars & D5 of the 2015MY-> P3 platform are 5 cylinder, 2WD D3 & D4 are 4 cylinder VEA)

Mine is normally just outside our house.

The TFT instruments are, indeed, good, and they're configurable.

The 8-speed autobox is also very nice with a useful Sport Mode.
