Default 760 turbo restoration

The 760 turbo estate that was advertised for free in the sales section arrived at 9:30pm.

Plenty of welding to be done but the interior looks to be in very good condition. It is a B230FT automatic, as it is an FT not an ET I suspect it might be LH2.2 rather than Motronic as it appeats to have no power stage in the engine bay, I only spent a few minutes looking at it as it was late and dark so I couldn't see much even with a torch.

Photos to be uploaded tomorrow or Wednesday, I'll see when I can get over to it.

So it is time to break out the angle grinder and welder again

Glad to hear you're restoring it Luke. As has been said, if it's B230FT then it will be LH2.4 and have a Lambda sensor and a cat. If memory serves it's a 1990 car so doesn't have to have a cat on it which could be interesting.

I've been speaking to too many Australians and kiwis about Volvos then, all of their later 700 series turbos seem to be LH2.2, I wonder why they didn't just do the 2.4 for them as well?

The engine bay (apart from the incredibly rusty battery trays) looks amazing, even has the original stickers on the radiator top hose.

My mate who picked it up for me said that it was used by a nursing home and then Mike's uncle (Mike was the gentleman I got it from) bought it and has owned it for over 20 years. So it has been well cared for but living by the coast it has suffered underneath.

Most 760 Turbos would have been B230ET Luke which is either Motronic or LH2.2, later ones B230FT with a cat would have LH2.4 and ~20bhp less than the ET lumps.

For UK we never at any point had LH2.2 on reblocks.

The only model that had 2.2 in the uk was the V6

I finally got to look over the 760 yesterday, I was expecting it to be rusty as it is from the coast and my assumption was correct.

I would say it is almost as rusty as 50 shades so this is going to be fun I haven't thought of a name for it yet.

Mike said he fitted a battery and it fired up and ran well, then it started running on 2 until it cut out and wouldn't restart. I suspect part of the fault will be down to water in the tank... here's why I suspect that.

First things first are a new cambelt and tensioner, oil, filter and spark plugs to be cleaned and gapped.

The oil is also atleast half an inch over maximum.

Well, that doesn't look like LH2.4 considering it was only introduced as an option as of 1 Jan 1990 across the range.

Bob.

Hiya Bob

This one was first registered Feb 1990

It is definitely not motronic as it is has no power stage and the wiring looks just like LH
