Question New tyre tread depth??

Hi all, quickie- does anyone know offhand what the average depth of a new tyre tread is?? Just trying to decide whether it's worth swapping mine back to front.

Usually 8mm, winter tyres may have more.

Thanks chaps- Halfords site (useful link) confirms 65-70% worn so probably not worth messing about. New set all round before winter. Rubbish Pirellis anyway so not that upset........

Thanks again. Peter

8mm when new,some summer tyres start a 7mm.
If you have a AWD Volvo it's a good idea to move the tyres around to try to keep them within 1.5mm front to back this will help the haldex diff, the fronts will always wear quicker as most of the time the car is front wheel drive.
