Default V50 - D4 - Questions and you views

Regulars will know I have been on here for a year or so. I have a 2008 V50 1.8S, but the chance of a Dec 2010 D4 SE, 27k miles, local car, one previous owner with a full dealer history for £12K (post haggling). I trust the independent dealership which is run by the local BMW franchise to sell their newer non BMW trade ins.

The car has a reasonable spec, including Bluetooth, which I think was an option (and will be a blessing) and winter pack. It has no parking sensors, but I know they were an option, however, the big surprise is no Aux input plug (which was a standard fit on my 3-year earlier 'S'). It's not the end of the world as we tend to listen to the radio in the car, but is this right?

Finally, what's the general view of the D4 engine?

D4 engine is awesome, it is a 5 cylinder engine so basically it is a 2.0 D5.

Are you sure it has no Aux? What level stereo was it? Parking sensors can be retro fitted if you require them.

If you had bluetooth or USB I cannot remember but removed aux port.

Basic stereo, which to be honest I find quit good on our 1.8 for entry level unit.

My last car was a V50 D4 Geartronic. I only changed it when I was offered a great deal on a new S60. I sometimes wish I still had the V50 D4. The S60 seems to be a step backwards in comfort. The D4 is a great engine much better than the 2.0D it replaced. You have performance when you want and also great mpg if you want (but not together!). Service intervals are better (18,000m) and also cheaper than the 2.0D. All in all a great engine and I'm sure you won't want to go back to your 1.8 after you've driven it a few miles.

So - I bought it in the end we settled on £11,850, including a decent 12 month warranty, but it does need its 3rd service. A good deal I feel. I have also sold my 1.8S to a neighbour for £5000, so well chuffed. Pick it up next Sat.

I take it you test drive it?

How did you find it and the engine? I'm sure you'll be very pleased.

Yes, we took it for a decent unaccompanied test drive on Saturday. We have had powerful diesels before, including a C30 D5 Auto (fantastic engine and car ruined by a slow, outdated slushy 5 speed auto box). I would have to say its a very impressive engine, I'll be interested to see what real time MPG I get, but clearly 'chalk and cheese' to the 1.8!
