I had a puncture and the inflator kit had a seized pump so I was going nowhere. I had recently had a full fat Volvo service which includes 12 months' free cover. They came out at 10pm, took me home then turned up again the following day to deliver me to Kwik Fit. The guy says that the Volvo breakdown cover is with Alliance who are one of the better ones.

How did you manage to get the wrong fuel in past the anti wrong fuel device?

Isn't it the other way around? Diesel in a petrol

The petrol nozzle will not open the anti petrol flap in the diesel cars. I've experimented at some length. The diesel nozzle is too big to fit in the petrol.

Never tried it, but that's good to know.
I've had diesel cars for so long I'm probably unlikely to grab the wrong pump, but I usually get a petrol loan car and that's when I have to be carefully.
So yes it's good to know that I can't really make a mistake.

No problem at all, the petrol nozzle is smaller than diesel, but I don't think the preventer worked, just my theory, or else the fuel station had the wrong pump nozzle on!

Spoke to my garage after and they said I shouldn't have been able to do that, but I did!

Happy New Year all.

I spent time with several garage pumps, after you originally posted, trying all ways to get the flap to open with a petrol nozzle and found it totally impossible to make the flap budge an iota. If the flap is not open fuel does not go in but splashes out all over the floor. I know because I tried to fill once without making sure the nozzle was in correctly.

Are you sure the garage had diesel in the pump or that it was working correctly if it was one of the changeable types?

Roy

A petrol nozzle did not defeat the device on my fuel tank.
Good job as I was not paying attention at the time.

Should have gone back to the petrol station afterwards as the consensus seemed to be I shouldn't have been able to do it, but to be honest it was done and it wouldn't change things.

There are two possibilities either the preventer failed or they had the wrong nozzle on the pump, but it's over with and I'm very careful now, touch wood!

Default Volvo Assist

Getting back to Volvo Assist. I have this, but not had to call them out (touch wood!). Does anyone know if it can be renewed each year without using a Volvo Franchise service garage, but one that specialises in Volvos? My Volvo Assist comes up for renewal in May, but I use a non franchised Volvo service garage (GB Autos in North Cheam, Surrey). I would like to renew as it was free!!
