Default Driveshaft fitmemt

Morning every one.

The passenger side drive shaft is not budging at all. I have to change the cv boot 2 yrs ago, the mechanic has to slide the cvboot rubber over the top of the shaft because the shaft stcuk to HUB. He did used a lot of force though with different press.

I read a lot that replacement shaft and the hub is the quickest and easiest way. Iam on to the ebay and saw few used shafts from breakers fro 70 pounds ro 230 pounds. I was confused to buy which one. The part number on my shaft is very unclear and not matching at all with ebay ones. I counted the splines from the hub side it was 36 teethed. I checked the vida and it shows some thing different number. Could some Please advice how to choose the correct shaft for the first time. As Iam buying this shaft as a back up for my abs ring replacement job later. So I cannot test it straight away with the arrival of the shaft.

The two part numbers given by VIDA have references to your chassis number (CH) so just check your VIN code last 6 numbers.

If you can source a decent used one for cheap then good, however if not then OE manufacturer GKN (Spidan/Löbro) remanufactures a driveshaft for both reference numbers.

ABS rings come fitted to the driveshaft.

Thanks for your advice. I dont want to fork out for a brand new drivehaft for just now. As I have still time to buy a used one from ebay.
Iam sure volvo might have changed the part number later.
Is there any other way to check if it is a correct fit. Like with the lenth or splines or width.

Thank you.

The shafts for automatic and manual transmissions may differ

Same for turbo and non turbo engines

The shaft splines were bonded into the hub by Volvo during routine service in the early days to stop axle ping on pulling away.

They fixed the problem about 2 years later with the retain bolt from the XC90.

They then added these retain bolts but never split the shaft from the hub.

My car is left in this situation also and I may have to cut the hub off the shaft to do a reluctor ring.

Nice one Volvo

I had the same problem on the other side. Same as you all I was trying to do was replace the abs ring. I went to the shop to get them to press the cv joint out of the hub assembly and they had to use so much force that they destroyed the hub assembly in the process. Ended up just buying a wreckyard cv joint and hub assembly and putting both on because the axle popped apart somewhere along the way and I just gave up.

Yes you are right. I went for the cv boot split. I could have done it myself but I thought mechanics were professionals. But I was wrong. Instead of steady gentle tapping and penetrating spray on shaft bolt, they beat it up and I guess they mis alligned the splines.
Iam on a hunt for a used axle. Sooner or later I might need do the ABS ring if it fails. Any one has anyidea how to chopse the correct one please.

You could use one of the websites that uses TecAlliance etc. database such as AutoDoc which has all OE number references listed.

This particular driveshaft has OE references:

VOLVO 30735276
VOLVO 30735885
VOLVO 8601581
VOLVO 8603801
