Default New v40 owner

New to the forums, so hi.
I bought a 2001 Volvo 1.8 last week and am enjoying it greatly. But I did the stupid and got lucky when buying it as it had no history or documents besides a new clean mot ticket and its v5 (owner passed away and family dumped all his paperwork including his car stuff. Or so I'm told)
Anyway, I dont really know much about modern cars as my previous daily was a '57 series 4 Morris oxford lol ( now being restored)
I'd like to know more about my Volvo as all I currently know about it is what the badges on the boot say :/

Which engine do you have? The 1783cc Volvo 1.8 or the 1834cc Mitsubishi GDI engine (1.8i)?

When I became a new V40 owner I read the first 50 pages of this forum
all the way from Australia, and then the buying repairs and mods began

I have no idea lol this is the kinda stuff I'm trying to find out 🤣
I assume it's the Volvo 1.8 as it's just badged as 1.8 but I dont know its history so if its had it engine replaced, probably not though lol

Sounds like it is the Volvo one.
The GDI has a big black engine cover, with the letters GDI, I'm assuming yours doesn't have this then it will be the Volvo engine.

Is the tax stupidly expensive? That's another way to tell 😂

welcome to the forum,
Be warned though, that if you have not got the V5, there will be a long wait( possibly 3 months before you will get a replacement from DVLA,
the 1.8 on a 2001 possibly will be the volvo unit, do they still use the Renault gearbox though?

I know this sounds obvious, but if you pop the bonnet and photograph the engine we'll be able to confirm what engine it is.

Also, at the back of the bulkhead there's the vin panel with various codes - take a pic of that and then we'll tell you where you can look more details up on the internet.

Also if you take a pic of the dash ie the area where the radio sits we'll let you know about the spec etc, in case you've not got an owners manual

HTH,

& congrats on the purchase
