Just been thinking - the wheel size is irrelevant to the indicated speed assuming the caliberation is the same for both speedo's.
It is possible to adjust the caliberation in VIDA and wheel size, maybe this is where the difference is? Strange that the less powerful engine would appear to have the longer final drive ratio.

It could be because the D4 is newer. The AWD XC70 model had a lower rate final drive to begin with, to make it better for towing. But the hunt for low fuel consumption could have made them change that, still keeping the 2100 kg max trailer weight.
There is a real difference, not just an indicated one. Comparing to GPS, both cars are indicating too high speed, but by about the same amount. |

I love the 5-cylinder engines but I also love my 4-cylinder V70 D4 auto. The installation is great and it all sounds like a well-oiled machine. (This was a surprise to me when I first drove it.) It's also a far better drive than, say, an early P2 V70 D5 such as the 2008 example that I test drove back in 2016. It's also better built IMHO.
The 8-speed auto is also useful since it improves performance and flexibility. I had the gearbox oil changed at 108K a couple of weeks ago, but the oil that came out wasn't too bad either. If I wanted a manual then I'd have gone for this one. https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classif...ars&dpp=757262 I know the seller and he doesn't sell bad cars. He's had it for a while but only because it's manual, I suspect. It's a well-featured SE Lux, which is the trim level to go for. I expect to see my V70 past 200K because it's a Volvo, so 118K miles doesn't frighten me. |
