I always chuckle when I see a baker's van with "No delicious cakes or buns left in this vehicle overnight".
Not seen a hearse with similar yet!

Speaking to one of my friends recently it worried me that he had been advised to keep his keys in plain sight so that if an intruder came into the house they'd easily find them and take the car rather than threaten him with violence for the keys. Housebreakers and car thieves are in essence very afraid when breaking into houses. It would have to be a very organised and violent bunch of thieves to actually confront a homeowner. It just doesn't happen.

A lot of them really aren't afraid when breaking into houses, I met plenty in my time in the police that would happily have filled in a homeowner to get the car keys off them. With that said I've never heard the advice about leaving keys in plain sight before.

Gun-wielding masked gang threaten man then ransack his house in Chorlton. This is the same area as the link I posted before where a home owner was killed trying to stop his car being stolen. |

Unfortunately we are not allowed to shoot an intruder on sight, unlike parts of the USA.
Just as well I am never on Jury service for that kind of case. Its a guaranteed 'not guilty' from me. Just as it would be if a burglar was caught by the householder and beaten to a pulp. I would just repeat the argument the do-gooders say about speeding, if you weren't doing it, you wouldn't get caught. I have lost track of the number of so-called good ideas based on technology that have been dreamt up by geeks with no idea of the impact on the user in the real world. I'm sure we could start a long thread on that one.

She had 4 house break-ins and 2 car break-ins in one year, she quickly moved again out to the country where you don't need to lock your doors even. The insurance chap she spoke to (on many occasions) said just get everything well insured and don't become attached to stuff. Easier said than done, I think.

The attack on keyless vehicles continues - https://www.manchestereveningnews.co...dvice-14496158
I don't want a steering wheel lock as they may damage the leather on the steering wheel. Looks preferable to having no car though. |

Many car dealers though keep the keys for their stock in large metal key safes with a combination type lock on them so the low lifes would have to target them when keys are being used for test drives/moving stock about.Of course at the end of the day it doesn't really matter what you do if they want it they'll find a way to take it,all you can do is make it as awkward as possible so hopefully they'll move on to an easier "mark".

Just make sure your neighbours car is more appealing to the lowlife.
My 940 estate would probably be good for a ram raid, but locked in at night at the Marina residents car park with CCTV. UPVC windows and doors can be awful for security as the cheap locks can be snapped off in seconds. Buy a BSI kite marked door lock that cant be snapped. Something like this. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Avocet-AB...%3D&rmvSB=true If you have glass doors don't have toughened glass as standard insist on laminated glazing! I hate toughened glass as no security! Brick or plant pot through your glazed doors and in goes the burglar! https://thecrimepreventionwebsite.co...stic-security/ James Last edited by volvo always; Apr 5th, 2018 at 23:02. |
