Nice looking but both autos, which is fine unless you want to go power crazy.

I so want a T5 again now, but just too used to Diesel costs, when I got the V60 a few months back went to see a couple of T5's (luckily they were pretty ****e so made the decisions easier)still really wanted one, but when I stopped and thought about the reality just couldn't justify the road tax increase, and drop in MPG. My current D4 is £30 a year tax and averages mid 40 mpg would get no where near with either on a T5, and once the D4 is remapped it'll be nearly as fun as a T5 and still have the 5 cylinder rumble

I actually changed from an 2.0d to my T5 and found that driving a tad slower and taking it easier wasnt that much of a difference. I commuted 120miles a day and same journey with the T5 wasnt that much difference and to fill the petrol tank up was cheaper. only thing that was more expensive was insurance and tax ... but then maintenance costs on petrol cars I have found cheaper than the diesels.

yeh a nice remap on a D4 brings it up but a nice remap on the T5 pushes it to another braket and bring out that nice exhaust note

Remap the T5 though and you're left behind again

I only have a 12 mile return trip to work so can warrant the fuel costs but the tax is ridiculous. I've been looking into swapping mine for something else recently, would like a Mazda 3 MPS but the £500 a year tax is even worse!

yeh good point, I have no experience with the auto boxes ... or have any interest for them ... do they really limit what you can do to the cars that much?

I've had a stnadard T5, and had it remapped, I also owned a D4 standard and remapped, and have to say a remapped D4 isn't a million miles away from a standard T5, but as you said a remapped T5 is in another league.

It's been quite a while since I had my T5 but I'm sure I used to get about 70-80 miles for £20 with little to no stop start traffic on my commute (sure the trip said it averaged 29mpg), I put £20 in the D4 and get about 120 miles. now I don't do that many long journeys so could probably put up with the extra petrol cost but the Tax is extortionate, and I'm sure the insurance would go up.

When I can afford a weekend toy I will definately get another T5

Yes definitely, not all are equal but in the case of the cars on this platform I know Nosh achieved 400bhp with an S40, but the box died, and then the replacement went later on apparently!

As stated earlier though there are autoboxes that can withstand immense torque figures - the DCT box in BMW M5 F10s can handle upto about 700nm as a stock item.
