I think the PA unavailable message coming on when driving, is for the front and rear bumper sensors (the parking distance beepers) as a warning they may not work when you stop and park up so dont rely on them stopping you hitting anything after seeing the warning until you have cleaned the sensors. (Cleaning sensors is the Service required)

I never ever use the park assist pilot (PAP) which is such a faff on and having 360° cameras and front and rear park assist its just not needed, and as was mentioned above cars behind waiting for you to sort yourself out and get in the space is a problem. Easier and quicker to park it yourself. But park assist (PA) is used all the time.

Sorry about double posting, ? Think I hit the back button after posting and seen it still there and hit post button again.

Just a word of caution around the 360 camera and park assist. When reversing out of a tight parking spot and the audible/visual warnings concentrate your attention on one side of the car don't forget about the other side Chipsaway are coming on Thursday to rectify a scuffed N/S/F 'bumper'.

I do a lot of High Street parallel parking and find the auto park feature useful, quick and easy. It is generally more accurate than me, but I come a close second if I have to do it myself My wife, on the other hand, has never liked parallel parking and loves it.
Not to say we can’t do it if we have to!

Neon, why do you find the auto parking system unusable? I ask because although mine is pretty useful 90% of the time, it sometimes just doesn’t take over and leaves me floundering, usually with cars behind me! Is that your problem?
I find it unreliable at finding spaces and then it is a lot of faffing around. My Mercedes had it, but not bay parking and the Volvo is not as good at identifying spaces at the side of the road. I was hoping more than 6 years on that the Volvo would have been better than the Mercedes, especially with it having PA2 etc. Really glad I did not end up paying separately for it as an option on its own.
I would like something that is just press a button and it does it with the option of braking if needed to stop it. I have no idea what the other brands are like at this but it needs some work on the Volvo.

Exactly, it's a waste of time (literally).

Interesting. The BM system replicates normal parallel parking, but completes the manoeuvre for you. You simply press the AP button, put on the left (or right) indicator, pull up ahead of the parking space and select reverse gear. Hands off wheel and hey presto, it reverses in.
I suspect that the few times it has let me down has been when I have failed to touch the AP button in time for the radar scanner to assess the space.
(I don’t know about other systems.)

Based on your experience is this a software issue or could the sensors have blown up so early?

They worked intermittently thou!

Cheers

I had this when the car was new. It was caused by the dealer fitting the electric tow bar before delivery. They damaged one of the sensor cables when refitting the bumper.

As an aside, although I'm a very capable at parking, the autopark facility works faultlessly now the dealer has repaired everything they broke.
