Post pics and info on your lowered 740/940
I'm about to fit new shocks and adjust the ride height on Moomin, and I'm looking for advice from those who came this way before.
I want to achieve a level horizontal profile - at the moment he is a bit higher in front than in the rear. Looking to drop around 40mm. I'd really appreciate members who have done this mod providing me with an image from the side and the dimensions from ground to the inside of the wheel arch front and rear. Wheel size as well so I can put that in the mix - Moomin is on 16 inch Aurigas Cheers |

I dropped mine 40mm and fitted B6 bilsteins. The car looks a lot better for it! But the shocks are too hard i think, i lost too much ride comfort, i wish i had used lowered springs but more standard shocks, but the handling is so much better.
I’ll measure the height when i go out in a bit

I have always reckoned lowering mods on a more or less standard 700/900 are fraught with woe; whatever 'experts' might say.
Seem to recollect they are only for the old motors of yesteryear that turned up on the main drag in Rotorua in those days of yesteryear |

there are no real woes mechanically, just problems with speedbumps. anyone lowering a 940 should also replace the panhard rod. |

Not too much
I have two Sports. Both have trouble with speed bumps and carpark ramps on the standard Sport ride height.

Tanks for the input so far guys.
I'd expand a bit by saying that I'm aiming to lower by around 40mm, so not enough that I'm threatening to remove cats eyes and other raised features on the road. Thereare some pretty extreme lowered efforts around and I don't intend to go that far - Moomin still has to tow boats, trailers, carry dogs and people, go to ski fields etc, so practicality is a consideration. And as for Rotovegas lowering job aka gas-axe the springs, no thanks Bob! |

Mines lowered 40mm with Bilstein B4’s. I have no idea why other people have trouble when they have lowered them as mine still doesn’t look low and I’ve never scraped anything on it anywhere - I live in Huddersfield with lots of steep transitions on roads and loads of speed bumps all over town.
The b4 dampers have tightened the whole car up a bit but it’s still nice and comfy (I didn’t go for B6’s as I heard they were very stiff). Handles better too- it was downright scary before to be honest, and I like to cruise around not pin it everywhere. I’m going to get dual ARBs on the back and an engine bay brace one day to try and sort the body roll a bit more as I think it could be a bit better but that’ll be it, I won’t do any more. The ride on my car is great even though it has 17” wheels on it.

You don’t need to if you’re only lowering 40mm. I think my new wheels are an inch wider IIRC (7inch wide now) but there’s no issue with the axle positioning - it might be to one side slightly but only a few mm if anything . Any lower than 40mm or if you’re going to go mega wide on the wheels and you might need an adjustable one.

Oh and if you go for double ARBs on the back make sure you stiffen up the front at the same time as it can get a bit tail happy with just the back end done. However you might like that....
