Question Newby with (daft?) question

Hi all,

New to the forum so please be gentle...

Just bought a 2004 XC90 T6. One thing has me flumoxed. Right behind the front cupholders is a thing and I have no idea what it is/does. It is an inch or so wide, black and the width of the cupholders. It is held in place by magnets and when you pick it up it is wired in and has a single roller control on the side.

I have never been stumped by an in-car gadget before, I even resorted to flicking through the manual, to no avail.

Can anyone help identify what this is? No doubt it will be obvious once pointed out and I will feel daft, but hey ho.

Cheers, Iain

N.B. You must get a regular GSM SIM. 3G won't work.

One more quick question, headlights are always on, can you turn them off or is that a dealer only job?

Cheers, Iain

It can be changed via VIDA. I suggest you don't. Daylight Running Lights are now required on all new cars.

The phone is GSM 900/1800 (1G & 2G), choose your provider according to whoever sits on 900/1800
In the UK they are:
  • O2 - runs a GSM-900 network, owned by Telefónica.
  • Vodafone - runs a GSM-900 network.
  • EE - runs a GSM-1800 network. Formerly this was two separate companies: Orange and T-Mobile, which was originally called One-2-One.

The handset is really useful - I was sitting in the back seat watching Kill Bill on my RSE with awesome stereo sound through the speakers yesterday and the phone rang - I reached over, lifted the handset and answered the call.

Awesome.
