Only 7 pin socket on 2017 V90 Cross Country
I bought my V90 second-hand a year ago and am about to start towing a caravan. The car was fitted with the Volvo folding towbar when new but I have only just discovered that there is only a 7 pin socket, I am gobsmacked to be honest, even my local Volvo dealer is perplexed. I know I can use an adaptor but this will only power the road lights on the van. Volvo tell me that if I want 13 pin then the entire tow bar needs changing at a cost of £1,000. Gutted and cannot afford that. I'd be grateful for any thoughts or cheaper fixes.

Bizarre! The towbar and electrics are completely seperate on the fixed tow bar. You can get the volvo 13 pin wiring kit from a dealer andfit it yourself, although you need a software update.
(Although the electric folding towbar doesn't seem to have a seperate trailer module, it's all in, but page 86 shows it is wired for a 13 pin) https://accessories.volvocars.com/en.../all/all/R.H.D Last edited by Billggski; Mar 20th, 2019 at 20:23. |

The tow bar will not need changing. You will need a thirteen socket and associated wiring loom. You should be able to get a local tow bar fitting service who will add the additional wiring. Make sure they can supply the Volvo kit or a similar. Most of the car manufacturers use Brink or similar supplier.

The socket is integrated in to the towbar.

So can you assume there is 13 pin wiring behind the 7 pin plug?

Check the cable to the socket there may be a cable for the 13 pin socket with only the 7 pin connected. can't think that Volvo would be supplying any 7 pin sockets!
