V60 boot release button not working?

I have a MY14 V60 and I cant seem to tell if the button on the dash with the light controls, to open the boot lid is working? I've pushed it when the rest of the car was locked and when the drivers door was unlocked and I can't hear, see or feel anything to suggest the boot unlocks, nor was the boot unlocked when I tried to open it, had to use the key fob and unlock all the doors.

Is it just unlocking and still needing the button pushing to release the catch?

It is explained in your owner's handbook ,
One example of it's use is if the car auto locks when you are driving and you come to a stop , someone outside wants to open the tailgate to put something in when you are still in the car press the button it unlocks the tailgate , There may be some areas where you feel safer with all the car doors locked !

This exactly. I have mine set to auto lock doors whilst driving and I always give the button a press on getting out the car to get the shopping out the boot.
It annoyed me initially but now I don't give it a second thought.

It just enables or disables the button in the boot lid handle so you still have to press the button to release the catch.
