Default Secondary air pump

Hi all.

Does anyone have a source of replacement secondary air pump for my 1996 Ph1 1.8 petrol manual V40?

Cheers for looking

Well, I've been in and around cars since I was a kid pretty much and that's a new one on me I have to say.

Some models of the Omega have an SAI pump[my face lift 3L V6 has one]many Omega owners simply remove this pump and sling it in the bin as it's in use only for a brief period when starting from cold.Of course doing this means you have to blank off the hole in the manifold[or wherever the pipe work goes to] 2 reasons I haven't done this on my Omega is that the pump is still working and because I can't be bothered to take it off.I would imagine the Volvo one works on the same principal and so can be binned without any real detriment.

This is probably what my old S plate v6 Vectra had on it, wondered what that annoying whirring was for a few seconds at startup.

I've never heard of a V40 having one. I have a 1998 1.8 (Volvo engine) phase 1 V40 and that definitely doesn't have one because the car has been in pieces. I would imagine a US spec V40 would have an air pump, but the 1.8 cars weren't available over there. Have you got a picture of your air pump? And is your car an import?

The OP's car being a 1996 model is an early one. Perhaps Volvo fitted the pumps on the early cars found they did not make much difference and dropped them to save cost. Certainly by 1997 they were not fitted.
