Flickering lights would, to me, point to a power supply issue. Are you sure that the power supply cables and earth points have been checked?
Particularly the secondary power cable that comes off the battery terminal and goes to the main fuse box (by the airbox).

Even with the correct ECU you will need the immobiliser & keys etc, on the later cars everything is linked...

As acshortt5 pointed out, it must have been a power supply issue, possibly in the connector to the ECU. After having disconnected and reconnected it a few times the car now runs fine, fingers crossed it will keep running
If problems reappear, I have a spare ECU ready for cloning. |
