  • VOC Members: There is no login facility using your VOC membership number or the details from page 3 of the club magazine. You need to register in the normal way

Flickering lights would, to me, point to a power supply issue. Are you sure that the power supply cables and earth points have been checked?

Particularly the secondary power cable that comes off the battery terminal and goes to the main fuse box (by the airbox).

The earth points have been checked, as the mechanic said. Will ask specifically about the secondary power cable.

The odd thing is that it only happens when the car reaches normal temperature.

Even with the correct ECU you will need the immobiliser & keys etc, on the later cars everything is linked...

If I have got this right, you can clone the old ECU over to another one, as long as the new ECU is the same part number.
After making sure about the power supply, I think this is the way forward.

As acshortt5 pointed out, it must have been a power supply issue, possibly in the connector to the ECU. After having disconnected and reconnected it a few times the car now runs fine, fingers crossed it will keep running

If problems reappear, I have a spare ECU ready for cloning.
