Are £29.99 Lidl Roof Bars Any Good For An XC90?
Has anybody purchased these roof bars from Lidl for an XC90? For occassional use they appear a bargain at £29.99 but only if they are any good.

I pointed these out too my brother last time they were in and he got a set for his jeep and i had a look at them and they appear too be suitable for any vehichle fitted with roof bars as the xc90 is so i have no doubt they would fit an xc90 and they were also very good quality and a bargain price.I have a set of the volvo aerobars which i have turned into a cycle carrier but i am thinking of getting a set of the lidl ones for backup. One of the good things about anything from lidl is that these items will always come back in stock at a later date.I,ve got my eye on the digital tyre gauge this time. peter

I looked at the bars last time they were in Lidl but our new XC90 had not been delivered and the list of cars on the packaging appeared very out of date - no mention of an XC90.

I purchased a set of these last time they were on offer in my local Lidl, for my 2004 D5 back in May.
They do fit, but the 'feet' do not fully encapsulate the rail. They are about an inch too long if you put the rail right to the top of the foot. They can be tightened up fully though. I haven't used them since buying them though. If I get a chance I will take a photo of what I mean and post |

Well I purchased them & here is a photo.
I realise that any roof bar must fit many different bars but does this look like what you would expect? They feel secure & tightening them leaves the gap above the rail as you can see. I have never used roof bars of this type before. Last edited by ChrisE; Oct 19th, 2011 at 15:26. |

Mine looked the same and held a Thule Atlantis roof box securely for 1 week with any issues. Seem to recall the original packaging listed the Volvo V50 which as far as I am aware uses the same Volvo OEM bars as the XC90.

I think I will give these a go thanks for the heads up on them - has anyone who bought them met any problems?
I have a pair of Volvo ones that came with my car when i bought it a few weeks ago - when i went to fit them just now I found the torx nut is totally knackered on one of them. Less and less pleased with the dealer now but the Lidl bars might be my salvation we are heading to Cornwall today and need to get our Kayaks mounted some how - 1 bar will not do it I am tempted to fit the knackered one and tie it down tight with a strap though ...nah I'm off to Lidls :-) |
