Default How to Remove Rust Effectively from Parts at Home

The article with this title has been widely read
I thought I would try out the method one day and then chose something small – a set of wheels!
I bought a set of wide wheels (banded) for our Amazon from a crap seller on ebay ( no photos – why was no-one else bidding?) knowing that they would need work.
One rim was holed and needed a section welding in. Others looked like this (pic1)
Then I got on with the electrolysis
Leave in overnight, scour off and put back!
The wheels come out clean, with only sound paint remaining. (pic2)
But I decided to take that off with a bit of wire brushing (pic3). And a lot of scraping in those deep crevices.
So all we then need to do is to prime and paint! (pic4)
I’m hoping this is going to last for some time!!
(when I get the tyres sorted I might post a pic of the end result on the car)

Smile Good luck

Hi Aidan.
Best wishes - I think it will work in Kildare (ours is in Cork)

Just to prepare the neighbours, here's a pic of what to get used to. And that shows how you might need to go to one of those shops that sells plastic boxes that I never knew what people used them for - are they all doing electrolysis?

And when you're doing the job my top tip is for a special tool - an oyster knife. Really gets into the deep channel between the hub and the rim!

Cheers
Chris

Default And now they're fitted!

Look what Santy brought us!
A set of tyres to go with the wheels! We decided to go for the Yokohama A-drive.
Very nice too - quieter, more comfortable ride on Irish roads, nice handling and no more heavy on the steering

Roll on!
