Update on our S60 D5...
Hi again guys,
I'm selling my girlfriends S60 D5 on the forum here, having just put 12 months MoT on the car. The only advisory was that three of the tyres were pretty low, so we're replacing those, and the alternator clutch has begun to fail - I have just received a replacement one today which will be fitted Saturday. I know it never rains but it pours (!) but now the vehicle occasionally slips into some form of limp home mode where it will just not rev out beyond about 2500-2800 revs with your foot flat to the floor. Sometimes a flashing orange light shows up in the binacle and although I have difficulty seeing it without my glasses (!) I think it relates to the STC (???). If I stop the car, leave it for a few seconds, then restart it the problem disappears. We want to sell the car, but can't sell it like this as I feel the car is dangerous to drive particularly when overtaking. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm going to book the car into our local non-franchised garage for a plug-in and taking a hacksaw to remove one arm and one leg. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Dave. PS: I'm copying this thread to the Sales section so that anyone who has been viewing our car can see the problem we have encountered. |

When was the fuel filter last changed? My V70 D5 had a limp issue after accelaration which was cured by a new fuel filter. The old one had collapsed which was causing fuel starvation. It's a cheap place to start (£26 from Volvo)

Hi mate, many thanks for your input, greatly appreciated. The car was serviced about 4 months ago by my girlfriends brother-in-law who is a mechanic. We purchased all genuine Volvo parts from Rybrooks in Chester, including the fuel filter. Normally the car runs like a dream, this problem only occurring when under heavy acceleration, for example when overtaking, or trying to show some numpty in a garishly coloured hot hatch that not all Volvo's are ponderously slow! Cheers.

S60 still for sale...
New alternator fitted now. The limp-home issue appears to be a wheel sensor which will be replaced in due course. Otherwise this car is superb. We have reduced the price to £1700 for forum members which is fair I think. Anyone interested please contact me.
Cheers! Dave. |
