I used to have an iPod Classic several years ago with my previous XC60, but if you are starting out fresh and you have an Apple ecosystem then my recommendation would be an Apple iPod Touch
I can recall reading on this forum last year that the iPad Classic was no longer supported on the current SENUS models hence I switched to a more modern 128GB Touch.
I love the way it auto updates my music changes automatically over my home Wi-fi when I get home via the Apple iCloud ecosystem.

I'm not a huge fan of Apple, but did quite like my old iPod. The trouble is my music collection is just too big for any of the (standard non-modded) iDevices.

I thought I'd try out using Android Auto to access my music last night. I have my music collection on an SD card on my phone (Samsung Note 9), and use MediaMonkey as my music player. When I saw that MediaMonkey shows up in Android Auto I thought "Yeah! Android to the rescue". No such luck!

It will play whatever is in the currently playing list, but trying to scroll through Artists, Albums or Songs causes it to just sit with the spinning circle until I cancel out of it.

I tried using Google Assistant to play music, but it insists on playing it with Spotify, even after I disabled Spotify from being the default player (although it doesn't seem possible to make MediaMonkey the default player).

When I try "Play Bob Dylan on MediaMonkey", it comes back with "Can't find 'On MediaMonkey' in Spotify, but you can ask me to play it in another music player", which would be hilarious if it wasn't so frustrating :-)

And so at last I've found the V90's achilles heal. Since getting it I've been telling everyone it's the best car I've ever had and the only car I've ever had that's not had one single annoyance for me to complain about. I guess it was just a matter of time!

Anyone else found a way of getting Android Auto to work for playing music?

Well for anyone else who stumbles across this thread, I've found that both HiFi Cast and Rocket Player apps seem to work ok with Android Auto. Note the term 'ok' - there are more than a few niggles with them. Neither seem to be very good at following instructions given to them by google assistant.

Statements like "Play Bruce Springsteen" works ok, but if you want to listen to a specific album it quite often gets itself in a right mess. "Play Beatsongs by The Blue Aeroplanes" was recognised by Google, but both players couldn't find the album. Same thing with "Play Kings Mouth by Flaming Lips".

I'll keep trying, and think I'll also drop a line to Volvo about the 15k song limit on the Sensus media player. If I get a constructive response (unlikely), I'll post up.

There is no excuse for the appalling media player in the Volvo range - 6 years on and no decent software update - how hard would it be to have a simple folder view mode?
