Geartronic box

Hi, I believe my wife's xc60 d4 awd 2016 has the 8 speed geartronic, when i put it in s mode i can only manually select up to 6th gear, is this normal or should i be able to select up to 8th. Sorry if this seems a silly question.

The new spa model has 8 gears, your older model has 6 gears.

The previous model XC60 4cylinder VEA front wheel drive D4 had the 8 speed box. The VEA came along late in the model lifecycle

The AWD D4 retained the 6 speed transmission and 5 cylinder engine, in a different state of tune to the D5

To make things more confusing.....

They sold two models of D4 in 2015/16

- D4 2WD with 2.0 4-cylinder VEA engine that had 8 gears
- D4 AWD with 2.4 5 cyl but had 6 gears

If you have a D4 AWD badge it'll be 6 speed, if you have D4 but no AWD then it's an 8-speed auto.
