TPMS xc60
Thinking of getting winter thres on a secondhand set of wheels but just strip uk me will the tyre pressure system have an issue? Does it work on rotational speed? Or a sensor in the wheel?
As the wheels I hoping for are 17 and current are 18 will Speedo need to be recalibrated? Or can you change it in settings? Or trip,to,dealer.... |

I'm not sure on which type of TPMS is used on these, but changing wheel size shouldn't affect the speedo calibration, as the tyre sidewall height will change to account for the difference in wheel.
Normally indirect TPMS (using ABS sensors to measure rotational speed changes due to pressure) has a 'set' button somewhere, where direct using sensors on the valve stem, does not.

TPMS works on rotational speed of each wheel off the ABS sensor (usually) so at worst you'll just need to recalibrate in settings.
Speedo calibration may not be an issue either, depending on the size of your tyres. 225 70 R17 has the same rolling rad as 235 60 R18 for example.

As long as you have normal tyre valves and not metal ones as standard, swopping wheels shouldn't be an issue

Check post #12 on this thread.
https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...highlight=TPMS The older systems used true pressure monitors, which were susceptible to damage when tyres were changed. The more recent tyre monitors work on the rotational differences when a tyre pressure changes. Either system, if calibrated according to the manual, will work if the wheels and tyres are changed. As stated above, the rolling radius of different tyre profiles / wheel diameters, is virtual the same across 235/65/R17, 235/60/R18, 235/55/R19 and 255/45/R20.
