Default T4 engine cover.

Hi all, my engine cover looks like this, but ive seen bay shots of the t4 which look like this one, has mine got some covers missing, or was there some optional engine trim available or something, as i reckon the 2nd option looks way better.

Thanks in advance

Your engine is the standard P2 cover. the other cover you show is the early P1 cover. The early one won't fit as the variable valve timing solenoids are on the P2 but not the P1.

Those covers you think are missing like in the P1 pic. are there because of engine cooling.
The air is more trapped in the P1 and under the engine cover there are shapes which funnel the incoming air up and over the head and down past the turbo, that funny shaped foil thingy catches the cooler air.

When the bonnet shuts it is almost laying on those covers and sealing the air in to travel over the engine.

Don`t forget the P1 was 1855cc and so will work harder to produce it`s 200bhp hence also it`s Forged pistons.

Ahh I see, thanks guys, I'd be interested on laying my hands on a P1 cover though and breaking the Dremel out, I reckon I could neatly cut out the area where the vvt is, maybe one day I'll try it

It's the front cover, I think looks good, the one that covers the back of the headlights, radiator, but they are as rare as rocking horse s##t.

Those covers around the front of the engine bay were only on the P1 and rare as rocking horse poo. The cover on the engine will not fit as the timing belt cover is completely different and they are not interchangeable due to the VVT solenoids. The coil packs may also be in the way. Of course anything is possible with a dremel, a hot glue gun, fibreglass and a rattlecan

There is one more thing that has been forgotten here:

For the P1 cover to fit onto the head of the engine you have to find the large alloy bracket that fits over the whole engine top which bolts to the head and it contains the mounting lugs for the large plastic cover..........the P2 does not have this bracket either so you will have to find an old T4 engine also?

This is yet another case of P1 and P2 cars appearing to be very similar at first glance, but when you delve a little deeper very little is actually interchangeable.
