Smile keys removed from car message

Hi

I'm purchasing a newer v40 and my friend who has a similar model tells me and i've since seen it in his car that when he starts his car with keys in the slot and removes them while driving the 'keys removed from car' message appears and doesn't go away until he stops again,is their a way to get the message to disappear or this just the way it is!?.

On my V60 this message only appears if any of the doors are opened when the engine is running and the keys not in the slot. I just press ok on the end of the indicator stalk to get rid of the message if it appears.

key is supposed to stay in , separate it from the rest or put a foam pad on the dash?

the message is an information message as opposed to a warning.

if you turn the wheel on the left stalk, ie on the indicator stalk, it should disappear.

I’ve not tried it on the V40, but surely if the key is not in the slot and you stall the engine, you will not be able to restart it until the key is inserted?

yes it does need to stay in, above is one of the reasons why …

Imagine your excuses to the insurance company when you stall and the car behind goes into the back of you because you cant get going quickly enough . err I had the key out of the socket ...

Errr! Am I missing something here? Surely if the key is removed when the car is being driven, surely the steering lock will engage when the wheel is turned?
