Question window switch pack

Hi, The window switch pack on my RHD 1998 V70 has given up life. I have read on here about purchasing a cheap LHD pack and armed with a soldering iron switch the wires around. I would cause all sorts of problems with an iron so have in mind purchasing a £20.00 LHD pack off ebay and dropping it into my door. I appreciate that the switches will be a..... about face but no doubt I will soon adjust to it. My question is whether the aperture in the top of the doors is identical whether LHD or RHD. Thanks jack

You NEED to do the wireing mod. Just use a terminal block and yes they are the same size.
Forgot to say middle plug on back of switch.

Jack: ~ I had the same problem just after purchase of my 97’ V70.
I cleaned all the internal contacts- although the forum advice is that it is a short term fix- however it still goes strong after 11months- it took a couple of goes to get all the brass contacts clean.

The replacement LHD switch had also been purchased along with the correct colour coded wire as I want to make up a plug in/exchange loom but the parts are still boxed until the original fails.

It may be worth doing an initial clean- you may strike it lucky!
Good Luck
Bob

Hi Huron, sorry but am confused. My knowledge of electrics is nil. I have removed the switch pack. Is the plug that which comes from the car. What/where is the loom; is this on the switch itself. You mention a block. Would I connect wires to this from the back of the switch. thanks jack.

Hi Jack, the loom is the wireing in the door going to the plug for the switch.
The plug is the middle one on the back of the switch. You have to cut the wires indicated and swap them around using a terminal block.
Hope this is clear, Hugh.

Hi Hugh, your continued patience is appreciated. I have never attempted anything like this before despite is clearly being very simple. In idiots terms I need a 12 hole terminal block. I completely cut all wires on the middle block of wires that plug into the switch. I take the blue wire and insert that into the first hole in the new terminal block [A 1 ] and opposite that I insert the black wire. I work my way down the terminal block until all 12 wires are connected.I then plug this middle block back into the switch and away we go.
Thanks again for your help. jack

You only need to cut 6 of the wires and a 6 way block. Do it about 3 or 4 in. up from plug.
