I forgot to do it and the footage has now been filmed over but I was going to shop in a transit driver a few days ago. It was a red light and no traffic was moving, he assumed we would be next so just pulled off and drove across the 4 way intersection on a red light! I really wish I had have gotten around to it.

I don't like the idea of certain types of motorists (like the ones that 'patrol' the streets pretending to do the policing job they always wanted to do but were not fit enough) submitting their footage to 'amateur prosecute' someone.
The footage could be incomplete or out of context, I chose to drive one of Volvo's high-performance models, occasionally on a quiet stretch of road I might want to open the taps a little and exceed 70mph (oh no send me to prison) I might greatly exceed the NSL whilst overtaking, is that dangerous or reckless? the footage might suggest so.....

Think thats bad ? Dont you dare have a private party in your own back garden and chuck a cardboard box and a few gingerbread men on the bonfire.
Effigies were legal until yesterday.

I'm pretty sure senior police officers are consulted on these matters, it wouldn't surprise me if they initiated it.

I am deeply uneasy at these events, deeply uneasy that is that 80+ ####wits thought it was OK to turn round and drive the wrong way up the motorway! According to the BBC report the delay was only for 25 minutes yet they thought themselves so important that they wouldn't wait but take the law into their own hands and endanger other roadusers.

What people do behind closed doors that cannot offend me, won't offend me, but publish something to the general public, that's a whole different matter.

eg I'm trundling along a single carriageway road behind a HGV that is doing 50mph on the straights but as soon as it hit bends or hills that speed drops. I come to a perfectly safe overtaking spot so press on the loud pedal to overtake & in doing so I exceed 60mph in order to complete the overtake safely, I then drop down to the NSL I've not impeded the HGV's progress but in the eye's of the law I should be hung drawn & quartered if I was unlucky enough to trigger a Coffer topper upper box, or if as suggested some road warrior with a dashcam were to report me. On the flip side I could have ensured the I only completed the overtake at 60mph so keeping on the right side of the law but the stretch of road ending meant I had to pull in sharply on the HGV impeding it's progress & potentially causing an accident. However in the eyes of the speeding police I did nothing wrong. Which was the safer course of action ? If a Police Car saw it (I think I saw one the other day ) The officers would have almost without exception treated scenario A as being safer & wouldn't act, but in Case B may have treated it is inconsiderate driving etc.... Camera's are far too binary to enforce Road Traffic Laws in some circumstances. Don't forget that I can still legally drive along a road at 60mph in heavy rain, fog Snow etc. & I won't trigger a camera but am I driving safely ?

There is a high degree of disconnect here.
The limit (set by the government, possibly many years ago and based on the safety factors of vehicles and roads of the day) IS the limit, ie the maximum, allowed by law. Drive like a prat or drive like a professional that limit remains! If you are stuck behind a slow moving vehicle then you wait until it is safe to overtake, pass and go about your business. However, if you are behind a vehicle that doesn't quite hit the LIMIT, you break the speed limit and overtake and YOU break the law, like it or not! You do not qualify for an exemption because someone else was going slower. Frequently you may have no idea what is ahead of a large vehicle, you do not know when someone else that thinks exactly like you might come speeding towards you because they were behind someone going slowly and they had to get to their destination 5 minutes earlier than anyone else, just like you. Whether we like it or not the laws are already in place. If some random jobsworth reports you for speeding, don't be surprised. If you run a red light just because there is no one around and you get reported, don't be surprised. It is a trite and over simplistic message, but, don't break the law, relax and enjoy the ride, you'll feel much better for it! |
