12v Battery Clip
Hi
Probably a dumb question, but I’m trying to connect a 12v battery clip (red and black croc clips at one end and cigarette lighter socket at the other) but no negative terminal under the bonnet. Do I need to remove the battery cover and attach straight to the battery? Assistance appreciated! |

Any suitable bolt head in the engine bay will likely be at chassis potential and so will do as the -ve connection.
The socket in the boot area however is already permanent live and I would have thought this would be a better solution than messing around with croc clips?? Cheers Dave |

Hi
It’s for an electric pump which blew the cigarette lighter fuse. The instruction manual says that in this instance I should go for the croc clips option? Just thinking......is it a viable option to use a higher rated fuse? Any other options? |

No... thats not a good idea. Your best option by far is croc clip - positive to the terminal under the flap in the engine bay and negative to the chassis. you will find a collection of earthing bolts attached to the suspension turret a few inches to the right of the positive terminal.

Yes, in that case (as already advised) - use the croc clips on the "under the bonnet connecting point" and a suitable chassis bolt head. There ought to be a fuse in the (cig lighter) plug of your pump which should give you a guide of what current is likely to be pulled. Cheers Dave |

The 12V socket in the cargo hold is rated for 10A. If you need more and you have the 13-pin tow electrics installed, Pin9 is permanent-live rated for 15A. Here's a pic for under-bonnet connection. I use this for my SUP eletric pump.
