Default Immobilser Try Start Again

I have C70 2009 2.0 D. I returned from holiday and the battery was dead so had to get a jump start. Car initially turned over but didn't start, then as I was continuing to try, there was no response to the ignition at all and the message "immobilser try start again" appeared. I read some forum responses and they hinted at the battery being the issue but today I replaced it and the problem still persists. However, I can still remotely lock and alarm the car via the key fob. When inserted into the key barrel I get the usual "whirrr" noise and electrics engage in 1st and 2nd key position but car won't turn over. Does anyone know of anything I can try before I have to spend some cash.

Default S40 - Immobiliser - try start again

I have the exact same problem after a flattened battery was replaced on my friends car. Things i will try.
1. unplug and clean up CEM connectors,
2. lock/unlock central locking 5 times ( does key hve to be placed anywhere in general to do this ? )
3. Check starter wiring from battery.
4. try hitting the key when its at the start position in ignition.

Ive got a VIDA diagnostic but IM guessing if there is lack of signal somewhere then it will not locate the fault especially if its a wire / open circuit fault of some sort . any advice i would really appreciate. One question if I could kindly ask is . If it was to be the igntition module the key plugs into . When replacing this it does not require any kind of programming does it? All it does is picks up the signal from the key and communicate it to the imobiliser/CEM ?

It'll likely be the SCU, looks like this

Doesn't require software, thankfully!
