D3 cam timing
D3 cam timing. I bought my d3 in boxes having jumped the cam belt and damaging the head. I'm now in the process of building all back together and looked on auto data for the setting up procedure.
It shows the cam pulley mark to the cam cover, however my pulley is slotted where it bolts to the cam, how do I adjust this correctly?

Hi
On the opposite end of the camshafts on the gears there are dots on each gear, I think 2 on the inlet and one on the exhaust or could be vice versa. Put the single dot between the 2 on the other cam Then where the vacuum pump will sit there is a hole in the head which lines up with a hole in the gear of the exhaust cam, put a suitable drill bit in this (think 12mm) and fit your belt with the 4 10mm bolts loose on the cam pulley. When the belt tension is correct tighten the tension pulley then the cam pulley bolts Rotate engine by hand twice then ensure holes at the vac pump end lines up This is how I do them Rob |

Thanks got it done 2 weeks ago. Seen the dots no problem but couldn't find any way of locking up the cams to adjust the slotted pulley.
Lined it up the old school way, welding rod down the piston and eyeballs on the cams. Perfect
