480 Aircon
Hi all.
I am a new member of the group though I have been a VOC member for a couple of years. I am on my fourth Volvo - a 360 GLT followed by 440turbo, 480 turbo, and now a 480 Celebration which I have had for five years - ten years old this year. It has run almost 90,000 miles My current problem - pretty crucial in this hot weather: the air conditioning has started draining into the car, not onto the road, and floods the passenger footwell. Any advice gratefully received. pwr Cumbria |

Hi,
Most likely the heater matrix is leaking. Have you checked the coolant level? Colour/smell of the liquid that you are getting in the car?? If it is the matrix, it may be either the matrix itslef or - more likely - the rubber pipework for it. Not sure how you access it in the 480 though, most likely centre console or whole dash . . . Des. . .

This has also happened on my celebration. There is a drain for the air-conditioning at the bottom of the bulkhead between the engine and the dashboard. This is accessable if you reach down behind the engine. There should be a right angled piece of rubber tubing on it which will pull off. On mine it was blocked with dirt so the condensation from the air-con ran into the car rather than on to the road. It's easy to clear with a coat hanger or something similar.
Hope this helps, Stuart |
