Default 850 T5 Roof spoiler

Hello All,

I posted a message yesterday about buying a T5, well I bought one in the afternoon as I couldn't refuse based on cars condition.

Only thing is it's a CD model with no roof spoiler and I want the spoiler !

Can anyone recommend a place to get one of these from. I've read a previous thread where brackets weren't supplied and they had tpo be ordered from Volvo etc etc.

Cheers,

Craig

Hello,

I've just ordered a rear spoiler having done much searching. I've managed to get one from a local volvo garage in York for £95+vat, that is supposed to be same as originals. Comes with adhesive for bonding on but also has holes to use std brackets etc. He said they've fitted loads using just the adhesive without any probs !

I guess it could depend how well the glue bonds. Mine was glued on a cold day in January, and I don't think the glue set very well.
I'm much happier with brackets.

Hello,

I take it when you realised it hadn't bonded very well, you did manage to re-fit it with brackets and not have to buy another spoiler ? Also, did you purchase brackets from volvo to fit it ?

Cheers,

Craig

Well I did sorta the opposite from this, on my S70 - removed the factory spoiler.

On the S70, there were rubber coated clamps from the spoiler, around the edges of the boot lid, and then adhesive under the two contact patches.

On mine, the adhesive took quite some shifting - I had to use a thin icing knife (the kind you'd use for icing a cake - no sharp edges, so I didn't damage the paint). I had to gently slide it in the gap between the spoiler and the boot lid.

After seperating most of it, it still needed quite a bit of brute force to get it off.

So the adhesive can be a stronger bond than you think.

The spoiler fell off on my driveway....luckily I wasn't bombing down the motorway at the time. I had a whinge at the independant garage that fitted it, and they said only gluepads came with the spoiler.
They even double checked with their supplier.
I therefore ordered the brackets from Volvo and had them fit it 'properly'.
I think this was discussed at the time, but I wouldn't want to be held liable for a spoiler falling off and bouncing through someone elses windscreen at 70mph.

Hello,

I've pushed the boat out and ordered the brackets to go with it from Volvo. Cheaper than a new spoiler if it drops off never mind what it hits !

Cheers,

Craig

Hello,

I am now in posession of the volvo brackets .... but how on earth do you fit them to the spoiler/car ? A diagram would have been helpful, but I suppose that was asking too much.

Does anyone know how the brackets go together or even better know of a diagram ???

Asking a lot !
