on mine i had to purchase the trailer module and the harness.on the left hand side there is as you have found a board with multi plugs already in and fuses that is the Rem. from the Pdf it states that the trailer module is already fitted in your car in mine it was not hence i had to pay £120.
if the trailer module is there it will be tucked up or in the panneling on the nearside rear side clost to the Rem. if not i would ring a volvo dealer and ask them if they are fitted as standard to your car.
from the 7/13 pin harness to the trailer module in . from the trailer module out to the spare slot on the Rem and a fuse has to be put in to activate it.

Thank very much. Although I am also old but alas not wiser. I still cant find it. Called to Volvo dealer today and he said "oh yes your car has it and its real easy to find. If you find the fuse board you cant miss it"
Well I missed it !! Can anyone see it in the pic

the trailer module if fitted should be attatched to the back plate where the Rem is looking at the pic its not there.
on the Rem where the orange multi plug is and to the top right there is a spare slot where the plug from the trailer module fits.what i would do is take all the gubbins as is now go to the dealer that said its there and ask him to point it out. that way you will no if one is fitted and your not going to have to shell out for that module. hope that helps
