Default AC cabin/pollen filter

Hi 2005 V70 with climate control and air quality sensor

I went to change the cabin filter though on this occasion didn't get a genuine part....I'd just given them enough money for service items/fuel filter/odds and sods

I got a Mahle one

It's thinner.... And the moulding/surround appears to be a mirror image of the last one I installed.... Which is genuine

There are two slots to fit a filter... So I assume I've been given a filter for cars without air quality sensor

The Mahle is a good fit in the thin slot and obviously rattles in the one my original filter was on

So.... Does it matter?? Do I just fit it in the thinner slot and forget it? I don't think my air quality sensor works anyway!! Well not last time I put a reader on it Otherwise the AC is fine....gassed two years ago... Still cold And above 30 degrees outside temp last year it went through a period of shutting off for a bit which seemed to be I think the temp sensor in the evaporator housing.... Though obviously it's right hand drive and you can't get at it.... This year... blowing cold at indicated outside temp of 34...

Anyway.... The cabin filter.... Fit or not Basically would it work ok with no issues

Thanks

I have the AQS too and use only the thin non carbon filter in the smaller slot. I've once had the thick carbon activated one and it cuts too much the airflow. I think the idea with AQS is simply to provide a better filtration for particles such as from diesel engines, etc. If the AQS is still working, it's simply flipping the outer blend door (under the windshield cowl) when it detects 'bad air', to get the air on recirculate.

I suppose the air flow arrows point towards the bulkhead/firewall then??

I forget the arrow orientation but you can easily discern airflow direction by which side of the old one is dirty. Reinsert if necessary to make certain you have the angled side correct.

Well I assume the arrow is on there for a reason... Such as with a fuel filter...

Anyway I tried flipping it over the other way and it won't fit.... So it goes the way the arrow directs you
