I have had a change of heart I enjoy driving and need my car to be right. I will pick up a gearbox from Huddersfield volvo on Friday and get it fitted at the weekend. I hope all goes well and wondered if any one had a new gearbox fitted and how much did it cost?

I'm in the same boat with my 2002 V70 D5, it crunches going in to 3rd and 4th. I've got a replacement box, just saving up to get it fitted.

How much is your garage charging you?

I have been lucky finding a mechanic who seems to know his stuff and he was happy with £160 which is in my opinion a bargain but I will update when I get my car back and all is well. Another place wanted £250+£150 for gearbox so I would think from £250 upwards, its a big job I believe 9hrs for a skilled mechanic. Let me know how you go on

The guy at Huddersfield volvo breakers changed gearbox for correct one and it as now been fitted by mechanic who did a great job. I had to top up coolant twice but seems fine now. Think I will need to get it tracked now due to steering wheel not in centre. Cost to fit gearbox was £150 really pleased with that fingers crossed I can enjoy the car
