Default Water leak passenger footwell

Hi all, I have a water leak in my 940 estate, it is collecting in the passenger side behind the drivers. When I bought the car the wind screen had a crack on the passenger side so I had it replaced and was hoping it would cure the leak but no its still there.
I have checked the sunroof drains, and they are fine.
Also I have cleaned out the scuttle and again fine, the grommets on the bulkhead are all intact.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks

Do you have the little flappy vent in the footwell on the 940? My dad have a previous 740 and found the carpet very soggy and the floor rotten and I traced this to the vent having come adrift and water was running down the inner wing and in through here. I think I ended up removing it and resealing with silicone.

Are you losing any coolant ? dip your fingter in and sniff / taste the tiniest drop for antifreeze, if so may be the heater matrix or associated pipework, I once had a leaky heater valve on the drivers side bulkhead yet the passenger side got wet !

Hope it is something easier to cure.

Hope it is something easier to cure.

Rotten floorpan/chassis rail - the 940s seem to suffer it earlier than the 7xx does.

Which side of the car is the carpet wet? Left or right?

There’s a few things it can be, you have to check them all:
1. Leak through vent as described above
2. Seal around heater motor vent under scuttle failed, can be fixed with some black sealant pretty easy when you take off the scuttle.
3. Sunroof drain holes
4. Door seals
5. Sunroof seal
6. Sealant between actual glass of sunroof and the rubber/plastic it’s mounted in has gone hard/brittle over the years.
7. Roof rack holes not weatherproof.

I don’t have a roof rack so I didn’t have to do 7 but otherwise that’s the order I checked and fixed stuff and it ended up being partly number 2 but mainly number 6!

Nothing expensive to fix but it’s all a bit fiddly and annoying tracing the leak.

I didn’t get any rust thankfully and carpet dried out fine.

Thanks for all the informative posts, I’ve removed and folded the carpet over to see where it’s coming from, the footwell air vent is dry, so its not coming from the heater.
I park the car nose up on my drive which is inclined, up so it appears water is running from the drivers side from under the seat in the small channels.

I will remove the scuttle on Monday and see if I can see anything, luckily I’ve no rust so I’ve found it in time.

Thanks again

Virtually impossible, there's a huge transmission tunnel in the way! The only way it can get from one side to the other is by capillary action through the carpet and soundproofing. If both sides are wet you have a different problem or more than one of the same problem.

Sorry I probably didn’t explain great, it’s running from drivers side O/S behind into the rear footwell directly behind drivers seat. It pools in the carpet.
