Seems the ABS light is on, so a sensor has gone. Would that stop the roof from working ? The owner told me that the roof just stopped, i.e. not through a cycle but got into it one day and it didnt work. May be due to it not being used ?

Any tips to fix it ?

Cant chip in with any specific C70 info, but as fellow T5 owner I can tell you that 25MPG in mixed cycle is an achievement for me. Im fully used to visiting petrol station after 230-240 miles of usual rural+city comute twice a week. I have heavy foot but still, dont expect much (although my friend with another V50T5AWD is able to achieve 32MPG average on motorways+bit of a city, probably using some voodoo magic, but I wouldnt hang on to that number..
Having said that, T5 is the engine you really want, sound/performance wise, the only downside is economy...

Ref ABS light - it may be only a sensor or a reluctor ring issue (not a ring per se but its part of a hub+bearing, assuming C70 are built similar to V50 T5). Seen this error also triggered by faulty brake pump but realistically - best option would be to connect it to Vida and diagnose properly, Roof issue may also be listed straight away - if you ask around, someone with Vida+Dice may be able to help out.

Well Ive brought the T5 :-) collecting Friday. Just done a vcheck and car has come up clean, mots all correct, etc.

So, will collect on Friday and spend the weekennd trying to sort out all the issues. The owner has sent over lots more photos, its in black, grey leather. Its the SE Lux so has a cd change in the dash. He mentioned BT as well. Recently had new disks and pads, and tyres. Current owner is 70 and wants to get rid. Several light scratches to the rear bumper and front, expected when your 70.

so, just the ABS sensor and roof.

So tell me more about Volvo diag software :-) i have a code reader for my Ml55 mercedes. I wonder if I can use that.

Once I get it I will update load some pics. Seems Ive joined you guys and have become a volvo owner :-)

Im based near Worthing / sussex. So if local be cool to meet up and compare weaponary ! :-)

Yep, got to be positive. :-) Will either be a tremendous win, or a major fail :-)

So, question to you convertible guys. What needs to be closed, locked into position, for the roof to work / not work ? On my old M3 convertible if the boot lid was open then it would stop the roof from operating. So Im assuming there must be similar safety checks / procedures for the C70. Im hoping that due to lack of use sensors may be stuck closed, or open so just want to understand what needs to be positioned.

ABS. Now the guy has told me that the light can be switched off via a scanner and then comes back on a few weeks later. now my Ml55 can suffer from ABS pump failure and that code will instantly come on and is either due to loom rubbing / breaking wires, or the motor has failed. Is this the same for C70 ?

Ive noticed a few bits of trim that need replacing in the pics he's sent me. One being the gear selector cover i.e. the valley where the gear stick travels has a cover, lower part looks missing. Are the C70 trims the same as the v40 ?

It has the top stereo option in it, does his have bluetooth for phones ? Its a 2006 so was BT on later models ?

ive been searching for t5 / 2.5 engine issues / what to look for. Is the 2.5 t5 the same one used in the V70 ? If so there is more info on that 2.5 than I can find aligned to C70.

Cambelt. seems that this must be changed around 100k or 8/10 years ? Correct ?

Gearbox oil. Read a long thread about how the wrong oil, Dexron 3 , can screw the box up. What do u guys use ?

Good luck. I hope you have bagged a bargain.

Have look on YouTube to see what VIDA can do.

https://youtu.be/Z1etoYZbAzc

VIDA lets you communicate and interact with all of your cars systems. You can get bespoke info for you car, parts list, diagrams, fault codes, service repair info. etc. Worth every penny in my opinion.

It doesn't just read fault codes, it gives you in-depth info. on causes, rectification etc. So much more than a code reader.

If you are pc savvy, you can just buy the dice unit and software and install yourself on your own laptop (about £100). If not, buy a configured system from CheshireD5 (about £250 I believe).

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/20L-MANNO....m46890.l49292

Mannol JWS3309 for the atf is most popular and good value.

The plastic boot load cover must be closed in place order for the roof to retract (or it thinks your boot's overloaded so waits for you to empty it) Not 100% sure where sensor is for that tbh, but that's a good port of first call, perhaps?

Dunno really, I bought one where I made very sure the top was working (few more miles, a bit younger, just down the cost from you, and sub £2K).

Mannol JWS 3309 for sure for the 'box. Mine's overdue, but the box is v smooth indeed, which makes me wonder what condition it's in, and if it's maybe had a change previous to the last owner. I'd dip it and take a look at its colour, but the dipstick's buried under the air filter at front right, I believe.

No bluetooth on the audio of that vintage I'm afraid. Grom plugs in if that's important to you (but pretty pricey).

That's exactly what I thought when I bought mine in similar circumstances (cheap with a faulty roof). It required quite a bit of head scratching, but it came good in the end. The real risk is the cost of new replacement parts for the roof, second hand parts can be found, but you might be looking for a while.

Mine didn't work at all at first, but just clearing the codes brought it back to life for a few cycles, and then fixing the fault with a window motor got it working reliably.

If you would like a demo of VIDA, or want to see the roof in action, then I'm only a few miles along the coast...

Thanks pinball dave. Great Id :-)

Where you based ? I might take you up on that offer. I was looking at VIDA DICE stuff on Ebay last night, and watching the various youtube videos that the chaps above kindly recommended.

You mention of window regulators makes sense. i suppose I will have to wait and see what `doesnt work` mean. If it's literally dead i.e. no movement or alerts, or if it starts and then stops, will all influence the possible issues.

Is there a roof diagnostic on Vida ? Can you plug the car in and do some sort of preprogramed check on the roof to confirm what isnt working ?

I was looking at the original sales brouchure, these were expenses cars back in the day.

I'm on the west side of Brighton & Hove, near to Portslade station, so fairly easy to get to from Worthing.

I'm not that familiar with all the roof testing available in VIDA, I know you can move the roof to the 'service position', and monitor all the sensors and signals as the roof moves, but I didn't need to go that far when diagnosing my problems.

Default Car Tax

Hi sbk1972
Just enquiring,I haven't picked up on the other posts yet, is your T5, auto or manual? I own a 2006 C70 T5 SE Lux Auto but it is registered before 23 March. Manual as far as I know the tax stayed the same, but the automatic's tax had a £200+ jump into the next group, ouch!
