Starting problems with v59 2l diesel - long post....sorry!
Apologies in advance for the long post, but I don't know enough about cars and would really appreciate some advice from someone who does!? I bought a v50 2.0d se '08, 2nd hand from a main dealer in November. (58k on the clock). After 2 weeks I had problems trying to get it to start reliably...sometimes it'd start eventually, but it ended up in the dealers again who cleaned up the air shut off valve and the shutter disc which seemed to solve the problem. There was no charge. Last week the problem started again, so it 's been back to them again. They said that there was a problem with the shutter housing striking and that it would cost £150 to solve. (I'm not clear on wether that meant a new part)? I "talked" to them about their suggestion so they initially offered to pay half but after a little more negotiation they agreed to make no charge. This seemed fair as I haven't had the car long and as the problem was obviously not fixed properly first time round. The driver who returned the car yesterday mentioned that he'd watched the mechanic spending ages sanding down the housing and said too that if the part was made of metal there wouldn't be these issues. I'm now wondering if I've been taken for a bit of a ride......£150 to sand a part down seems a whopping price to pay even at main dealer prices. Would the part have been replaced if I'd paid myself, and as I didn't pay have they taken the cheap way out and so the problem will be more likely to happen again....or is £150 reasonable for what they've done? I'd be grateful for any helpful thoughts so that I can decide wether or not to confront the dealership (had initially been so pleased with their customer service!)....just can't cope with an unreliable car anymore...I went for a Volvo because they are supposed to be good! In addition to all of this the car judders around 70mph (dealer has put this down to a flat spot on the o/s alloy...£350.60), and has identified front wipers needing replacement @ £57, and that the ns front side light also needs replacing. There are if course other things on their visual checklist that are amber (1k in total to sort!) but the wipers seem fine to me and I can't see a bulb out and nothing shows up on the display so I've further concerns about dealers approach / honesty / judgement. Wonder if I've spent hard earned money on the most expensive car I've ever had (10k a lot to me) which is a dud and going to cost a fortune to keep going??? Thanks for taking the time if you've stayed to the bitter end!!!

Just to let you know the issue was the battery that was running at half its capacity. Changed the battery and it is fine now. |
