Later red blocks and all white blocks only have an electric fan that sits in the normal place behind the rad pack. This type of electric fan is 2-speed as far as I know and applies to vehicles with or without A/C. D24's only ever have an engine mounted viscous fan, with or without A/C. |

you should switch on the air conditioning regularly during the winter and all year as this reduces getting bugs in the system you should also at least once a year dedoderize it against bugs

All using standard Volvo parts - fan, relay and wiring. I used one of these in the bottom hose to switch it... https://foundry4x4.co.uk/index.php?r...65_1760&page=2 Increased by MPG by 1-2 when I did it, too - now averaging 44.3MPG over the last 20k miles (all long journeys, mostly with cruise control on at motorway speeds). It's a very tight fit - requires the viscous fan pulley idler to have the nose trimmed down, and if I remember rightly I skimmed the fan motor to provide more clearance too. There's less than 10mm from the front of my engine to my fan when the engine is static, but it doesn't touch when driving. Last edited by tofufi; Dec 1st, 2018 at 22:04. |

Sorry Jim, I didn't realise you'd already done it! Thanks for sharing those details - useful information for anyone else wanted to convert their D24. One of mine was already fitted with a Kenlowe courtesy of the previous owner.

As said before, A/C air is "dry" and helps demist.
If you really don't want to use the A/C, use the 3 o'clock position (up/down arrows). This allows airflow to both the screen and your feet so you can warm your feet while demisting and the A/C stays off. Cheers

On cars with fuel injection, ECU takes signal from A/C control unit (and in some cases also compressor clutch feed) and uses this to adjust Idle Air Control (IAC) valve. |

I'd have to check on the Volvo diagram but on my other beast, the battery voltage can also cause the ECU to increase the idle speed, if the ECU senses the battery voltage is low, for example if the headlights, HRW, heater fan and so on are all operating and the car has just been idling for a period, say on the M25 in rush hour. As an aside - rush hour, when the traffic moves at its slowest!

Do 960s/V90s have viscous fans? Pretty sure mine only has a Leccy one. Only heard it at full whack in the summer when it was 34*C!
Cheers
