Default Superb 245 on eBay

Just been to see this car. It isn't exactly as listed.there are a few minor blemishes but the main problem is that the gear box isn't working (all four gears very sticky and won't go into reverse at all).

Looking underneath it seems to be covered in gearbox oil. The owner told us that he has only discovered the problem today and that he will seek to put it right on Monday (auction ends tomorrow). We suggested relisting the car but he didn't indicate whether or not he would.

Just been to see this the 'superb' 245 listed on ebay and ending tomorrow. Very nice but...It has gearbox failure. Won't go into reverse and other gears are sticky.

Does anyone know what the procedure is now as we think it might be a bit unfair on anyone buying as is!? Even if he puts it right does it seem surprising that given the low mileage the gearbox seems to be failing? Any ideas what the likely cause might be and how much to put it right? Alternatively how much are gearboxes going for and are they available with similar low mileage?

Other issues with the car: cracked left headlight with water inside unit, two penny size rust spots in rear wheel arches, headlight wipers not working, couple of little dings that have been touched up, dropped windscreen, number plate lights not working, cracked spare wheel cover, behind handbrake, rear side window rubbers perished.

Other than that a very handsome looking car!

that's quite a list! I'm not really sure how it gets near to being a 'superb' example?

Just to clarify - I'm not saying it is superb - it is listed as such :-) Keen to find out what people think the gearbox problem might?

Default Volvo 245

The engine and gearbox is one of the least problems with these cars.
Rust is the worst enemy!!! Rest is all quite easy replaceable.

I have never focussed myselves too much on low mileage. It this 40 kMiles is done on 40 kTrips than you can imagine that the engine will show more wear than a healthy 300 kMiles older volvo with mainly highway miles.

But I must say that this overprices 245 looks superb..

2500 seems very overpriced for a non immaculate car even though low mileage

gearbox problem is an interesting one

==1 assumption- the car has been standing still extremely long
however he claims to have driven 2000 miles plus recently ??? enigma

does the car have powersteering????

Does anyone know whether (if the gearbox has gone) if it would be possible to simply fit a Torslanda 5 speed box in this 245?

Default 5.box

I dont know if the bellhouse casings from gearbox to engine are the same.

anyhow you would need the propshaft as well as they are different lenghts.

advise= not only frontend propshaft but to be certain complete shaft.

For this model you simply must try to obtain a M46 with Milesdrive at the rear of the OD. Take the propshaft also with and it will be an easy replacement and it give you 5 speeds forwards!!!

The same is valid for the Power STeering. Recent volvo's have these more or less common. The seventies models have been sold with and without. You can easily take such a system from a scrapcar with pulleys etc and it will take 2-3 hours max to do the conversion.

Goodluck..
