^^^^^^^^^ This - do not change the ECU otherwise you will be in a world of unnecessary pain and expense.

None of the sensors or actuators are coded on the engine, but you should check that the injector class is the same as before - if not it's an easy change you you will need VIDA.

(Most second hand engines are supplied with injectors as they can be difficult to remove)

Smile V70 Engine Swap

Hi, I have swapped the engine on my 2003 V70 as I blew the CAM Belt. Never done it before but took my time. Bought a second hand engine from eBay (knowing the risks) and it runs fine. Here are my top tips. I followed a Haynes manual and followed advice on YouTube.

1. Make sure you take lots of Photos and Video.
2. Write down everything you do in a book.
3. Bag, number and label every part you take off, also associate with actions.
4. Have a couple of good torque wrenches.
5. Buy new O-rings and Gaskets for any you remove (most available on eBay). I did not do this and ended up with a coolant leak at the back of the water pump which meant removing the turbo and manifold again!!!
6. Check the rental price of the Engine Crane, for me it was cheaper to buy one, which I sold for more or less the same price.
7. Label and mark all wiring and connections.
8. Do not rush the Job.

Hope this helps and good luck. There will be frustrations along the way but there is lots of help out there.

Just another thought.

It can be very difficult to read the engine number (certainly was on my last v70). You may just want to record it while engine is out.

Not checked whre it is on my xc90, but just a thought!

You may want to look on this forum for local Indi, I got local Indi to change engine on my old v70. Basically because they usually know what they are doing, have the tools and logistics and ( in my case), take half the time.

Let us all know how you get on and good luck.

Good advice from Tannaton above.
When going through a flooded road in my 2011 XC90 (car was only 18 months old) a wagon coming the other way caused a wake which hit my car and it sluttered to a halt and would not restart, water was only just above road curbs, by the time a tow truck arrived the water level had risen to the foot pedals. The car was written off by the insurance company.
They do not like getting wet. The electrics are too low and easily get wet.
