Default Picture and Part Numbers

I've uploaded some pictures showing the temperature gauge I fitted to my pre-wired 1994 Wentworth. It appears to have part number 9130199 W244. There may be a more recent part number since searching this yields very little from Google. It looks as though the white connector has six pins.

My guess is your gauge was from a 960 and has a part number like 9442081 W638. Like you, I acquired one of these first. It has a black connector with five pins, and doesn't fit the 940.

I've fitted two of these in the past and I have a feeling the socket can be quite well burried in the wiring behind the dash. It should be towards the left hand side. I am sure on both occasions it was taped back onto the wiring loom.

It may help if you remove the kick panel above the pedals. I've found this also makes it easier to get the wiring back when you refit the dash since there is not much clearance between the new gauge and the air ducts. I'd say this is essential if you have a boost gauge since there is very little slack on the vacuum tube.

Good luck!

Many thanks Forrest, found it! It was cunningly hidden. Actually, it was not only wrapped in foam but it looked as if wires were going in from both sides, but you are quite right the black one will not fit, but a correct one is enroute, (thanks David). Hopefully that will sort it although I obviously haven't actually fitted it yet. Must remember to check the bulb, what type is it? Also, does anyone know whether the warning light bulbs can be separated from their holders?
Again, thanks Forrest

Default Instrument panel Bulbs

Hi: The panel illumination bulbs (black holders) and the warning lamp bulbs
are best sourced from Volvo. they are not expensive & you get the correct
wattage. You will probably be told on the Forum that you can break out the
bulb from its holder & then solder all sorts of lamps in place. The choice is
entirely yours.

Default Bulb

This bulb (unlike most 940 panel bulbs) is a fairly standard 12V/1.2W panel bulb with an integral cap. It is not the same as the rest of the dash bulbs. I bought my replacement from Halfrauds.

It should be the same as the bulb in the black-connector unit you already have, so if you want to get a new bulb up front you could try taking that along to a garage or parts shop.

If it's any help I've attached a picture of my dud one that I still have kicking around. I think it may be type 509T, but I no longer have the packet and trying to confirm this on-line I'm getting confused between 509T and 286T.

The wiring on my 1998 940 is different to the earlier models. I think they changed around 1995. I had to get a haynes manual H-R reg to sort an alarm back up battery charging fault.
