I've had mine 3 years now and the only time it stopped working was just after volvo did a service on it ,it shuts down if vida/dice is plugged in .
Back then it wasn't in the info on line.
Great bit of kit still love it.
Here's my dim message on shut down.

You can only plug straight into the OBD socket if your car is 2005 and newer.

The cars i have at my disposal are a 2004 S80, 2002 V70 and a 2000 S80.

All connect to my Vida and show no fault founds, Can Bus Voltages are within specs on the pins and same at various locations on the can bus around the car.

Checked all the leads for continuity and there fine. Going to try manually connecting to the RTi Lead on the S80 as its sat nav works fine.

Both CFE's i have dont work in any of them. But work fine hooked to laptop and can be configured and written to.

I Dont have access to any newer volvos to try. If anyone is near bedford and has a 2005 and newer car and would be willing to try a CFE it would help in diagnostics.

We are suspecting its a Firmware/software issue.

But Volvotech support are not back at work till tuesday.

So will update with our findings, Volvotech have been very good in support.

I have the mk1 version with flashing led's .
So it's easy to see if it's working talking to the car.

Yes the instruction manual mentions the led's but the new smaller mk2 version doesn't have them. Which makes diagnostic difficult.

Volvo tech have responded and we've just sent screen shots of the software as we've configured it. But the software is so simple to understand and use it can't be user error on our part.

Have you ever (successfully) connected anything else to the car via the AEM?

So the Mk2 unit they don't all come with the socket that plugs into the diagnostics socket.
You couldn't just plug it in temp thing to see if it works.

Just a idea you have you tried locking the car and unlocking it once you connect a module.

Success!!

Used one of volvotechs manual connection leads and connected to the AEM lead and it works.

So this pointed to a problem with the supplied AEM connection lead. The can bus pins were reversed.

Swapped the pins round and AEM lead works now.

Contacted volvotech who appologised and have checked there stock of AEM leads and there manufacturer has made the error.

They will now have caught this issue and no one else should be effected, unless you ordered a CFE with an AEM connection lead in last week

Glad you got it sorted, many thanks for identifying the issue too! I've been told that any AEM cables shipped now will be correct.
