Default Easy way to tell if car is mapped?

Hi
my V70 D5 euro 3 seems to have a lot more shove than i'd expect from 163bhp but it's the only one i've ever driven so can't tell if it is standard
it's certainly faster than my friend's 530d.
is there an easy way to tell if the previous owner had it mapped?

Having owned both the models you have mentioned I can say that if your D5 can get near a 530d it's been remapped or your buddy has something wrong with his Beamer.

Check for checksum errors in ecu . that will come up with the remap
or else check if the boost gets over 1.3 bar

A stopwatch or contact the previous owner or stealership, unless you want to ask a Volvo stealer for a test drive or ECU printout.

If it is mapped, you will need to inform the insurance folks if it's outside policy limits. My V40 should be 115 hp but has a slight non turbo tweek to 130 hp and it's in limits. It can be mapped to 150 hp, BUT that's not only a risk to an old HG or turbo bearings, but costs more in premium terms.

Black smoke when booted is another sign of MAP fiddling!

Yes also torque will list the checksum error i believe.( do the fault readout)
Ill check it to make sure .mine is mapped
And boost can be shown with torque for sure

Mine is mapped and there are no fault codes on Torque that would indicate that it's there.
If you do have torque, check the boost when accelerating. It''s going to be higher if it has been mapped.
You should also notice that there will be no/less flat spots. Standard maps nearly always have flat spots across the range.

Well and E39 530d was 181bhp, so a remapped 163bhp D5 could be quicker and it wouldn't get much of a lead on a standard D5. Depends on the year of the BMW really.

In vida you can see it do, but boost above 1.3 bar is good indication

Thumbs up

I had a MY04V70 D5Se Manual 163 which was not remapped and noticed a considerable increase in acceleration after a leaking intercooler was replaced.

Very quick off the mark and sustained torque through the gears...a very confident car...maybe the previous owner had the intercooler replaced on yours?
