Is it worth removing the auxiliary belt to make sure nothing has seized preventing smooth cranking ? Air con' clutch maybe seized or other ?

When cranking, sounds like a squeaking belt perhaps ?

Just another straw to clutch at !

Had a little play with it.. it's in time with every fifth detonation expected for the noise, it's not locked up - managed to start it with a known good battery (running four cylinders and shaking everything to hell/screeching)

Contemplating checking the water pump but I'll get shot by other half if I use the 3 days leave playing with the car

I'm steering towards cam/valve train/lifters at the minute, reset timing (can do it without a kit with the right swear words)

It started (rough, idled for a bit then died off, seeming seized on cylinder pressure more than anything at the moment)

Might roll out the injectors tomorrow and check they're all giving a even squirt as battery is on charge right now.

Got a BMW X1 bought up, already missing the bootspace 👀 if I can revive the v70 though it's a big difference in monetary value of it (and will be a strong thought over having both running)

Today's takeaway was f**k these are a heavy lump to shift round by hand when not happy and that it's got hope in it for extended life still

Edit to add - water pump seems alright, alternator/AC comp do as well - serp belt taken off for the next run to check if that's the screech source

To note what I've been up to as I didn't in this post like a plank..

Had all the injectors out, visual inspect, dropped some lube in each cylinder & had to hand crank it to get it moving - spun it free on the starter without injectors in after breaking free to ignore compression and prime injectors.

Gearbox/clutch both fine, not having the power steering pump made her heavy (serp belt off for now)

Will revisit once I have more time again

Hi,

If you haven't already done so, I would suggest following the codes by checking/ replacing glow plug 3 and seeing how it starts/ runs then.

Best regards,

Rich.

Once it has started and warmed up a bit the glow plugs should be out of the equation? Have you done a compression test?
